Express Lift Breakdown at Spirit Mountain

The engine failed on Spirit Mountain's $3.5 million express ski lift back on Christmas Eve, and staff don't know when it will be back up and running.

The Spirit Express II runs from the Grand Avenue Chalet to the top of the ski hill, and was purchased from a company overseas. However, the manufacturer will not do repairs so the motor has been shipped to Wisconsin to be rebuilt according to Marketing Director Briana Johnson.

“It's a brand new lift it's only 14 months old so it's a very unusual thing to happen. The lift has currently been shipped out to basically be rebuilt, and we don't have an exact timeline of when it will be back up and running. But the good news is that with the remaining lifts you can access all of our terrain,” Johnson said.

She recommends that guests park at the upper chalet along Skyline Parkway, but there is a wagon running from the lower chalet up to the first chair lift.
