While many of us are relaxing on the first day of the new year, one Duluthian is beginning a 3,000 trek across the country.

Jennifer Krussow and her friend, Georgia, are biking from San Diego, California to St. Augustine, Florida over two months.

The bike trip isn't just for fun, the duo are raising awareness of a problem in Duluth and across the country, human trafficking.

The women set out on their trip Jan. 1 and have everything they need for the next two months on their backs. Krussow says they plan on staying at churches and parks, that way they can talk to the communities on their way.

"It's so underground and it's so heavy. People don't know how to approach it or deal with it, and they're angry when they find out it's there, but they don't know what to do about it," she said.

The trek will be tough, but Krussow said her sore hamstrings will be nothing compared to what women in sex trafficking deal with everyday. Money raised on their trip will go to SOURCE, a non-profit in Minneapolis.
