An Illinois truck driver was found dead in Washburn County on Friday.

Deputies received a call on Thursday about a company truck from St. Louis, Mo., that had been missing since Dec. 23. On Friday, the truck was found in Potato Creek, where it had broken through the ice.

Deputies said they found the body of 30-year-old Edward Steinhardt, from Naperville, Ill., about a half-mile south of the truck. The body was in the brushy land along Potato Creek, according to authorities.

Deputies said it appears Steinhardt got wet when his truck broke through the ice, and succumbed to the elements while walking along the creek in the harsh conditions.

The Washburn County Sheriff's Office and the DNR are recommending that no one drives on area lakes. They say three other vehicles have broken through the ice in the area in the last week, with no other injuries.
