On the Iron Range, the State Patrol responded to a serious crash involving two trucks and a car early Monday morning.

The Patrol said that a logging truck heading south disobeyed a stop light at the intersection of Highway 53 and 12th Avenue in Virginia.

Authorities said it broadsided a Viking Electric truck driven by Peter Nilsson, 50, of Duluth. He was seriously injured and brought down to Essentia Health-St. Mary's Medical Center in Duluth.

The driver of the logging truck, Mark Fosso, of Cook, was not hurt.

Some of the logs fell off the trailer and struck a Pontiac Bonneville, but that driver was not hurt either.

The crash happened around 5 a.m.
