Many families can't afford gifts as Christmastime draws near, so Superior firefighters made a little space for Toys for Tots to set up Saturday morning.

Families in need were able to get everything that makes Christmas special for the kids, from dolls to bikes. It took a lot of hard work from volunteers like Erica Mittlestadt. She's helped out for more than 10 years, and she said it pays off to see a family walk away with a smile.

"It's a lot of work Wednesday and Thursday and Friday," she said. "Distribution day starts hectic but by the end of the day we're happy to be here and happy to be doing this ... A lot of them respond with gratitude. This is something that really helps them out in the Christmas season."

Toys for Tots planned to help more than 600 families by Sunday. Board games and sports equipment for ages 12 and up are needed the most.
