The Duluth-Superior harbor is beginning to freeze over, but it won't stop shipping yet.

The U.S. Coast Guard Cutter Katmai Bay will be breaking up the ice in the harbor to allow ships to keep going through, they announced Friday. Later on, the Coast Guard says the Alder will relieve the Katmai Bay.

Between the two Coast Guard cutters, the waterway will be kept clear until the end of the shipping season, which is usually Jan. 16.

The Coast Guard asks all ATVs, snowmobiles and anglers to be careful and avoid shipping channels.
