Superior Police have identified the pedestrian hit by a vehicle in Superior on Tuesday night. Police responded to the 500 block of Hammond Avenue around 8:40 p.m. Tuesday and found 50-year-old Shawn T. Roa of Superior in the northbound lane.
According to the release, police say Roa was breathing but was not conscious.
The incident did not occur in the crosswalk area, said the release. She was transported to St. Luke's and as of Thursday morning, the hospital said she is in serious condition.
Police said the driver of the striking vehicle is a male resident of Duluth. He remained on scene and spoke with officers.
The driver told officers Roa must have stepped out in front of his vehicle, because he did not see her. Police said two witnesses confirmed the driver's version of events. The witnesses placed the pedestrian well to the south of the crosswalk.
According to the release, the driver did not exhibit any signs of impairment and he was released after a preliminary breath test detected no alcohol.
This is an ongoing investigation. No further details will be released at this time.
