A UW-Superior professor who had been placed on leave has resigned.
Dr. Matthew Faerber, a tenured faculty member in the Music department, had been placed on paid administrative leave in August after university officials learned of past criminal convictions. He was hired in 1998, nine years before the UW System implemented mandatory criminal background checks for all new employees.
Chancellor Renee Wachter moved to seek Faerber's dismissal after receiving the results of an investigation conducted by retired Judge Edward Brunner. Faerber was moved to unpaid leave on Oct. 9.
In a statement released Friday, Wachter said Faerber had agreed to resign under terms of a separation agreement. "We believe that this is a fair and reasonable resolution to a difficult situation, which serves the best interests of students and the entire UW-Superior community," Wachter said in a prepared statement.
