A new non-profit launched in Duluth Thursday. The Duluth Police Foundation hosted hundreds at Clyde Iron Works for their first event.
The foundation is a volunteer group that plans to raise money for public safety initiatives throughout the community.
Duluth Police Department Lieutenant Mike Ceynowa said they hope to do more youth outreach with the funding.
"That's what this foundation can do. They have the ability to raise funds and decide where it goes. So it's not always going to be about the police officers getting the money, but it's about making our community safer as a whole," said Lt. Ceynowa.
The launch party was also a chance to learn more about some of the volunteer groups that work with the police department to keep the community safe. The Citizen's Patrol, the School Crossing Guards, and several other groups were there to show their support.
