In one move, the Ely City Council voted to place a six-month moratorium on both e-cigarettes and synthetic drugs on Tuesday night.
The measure prohibits the use of e-cigs anywhere that regular tobacco cigarettes are not allowed to smoked, such as restaurants, bars, and public parks. It also bans businesses selling e-cigs from allowing customers to sample the products indoors.
The move placed tougher regulations on synthetic drugs, banning any business or person from selling them.
The moratorium will be in place until April 20th, unless the council passes an ordinance that places more permanent regulations on the two items before then.
Ely Mayor Ross Peterson says that it gives the City enough time until they "feel they have their act together enough to pass an ordinance."
