Members of Duluth's 148th Fighter Wing banded together Saturday after tragedy struck one of their own.
Ryan Ewald, a crew chief with the 148th, was killed in an ATV accident last weekend. So members of the Fighter Wing held a benefit Saturday for his two daughters, Kayla and Emma. Ewald's wife, Amy, is also a full-time member of the 148th.
Senior Master Sgt. Dawn Techworth said about 300 people came out to the benefit. She said Ryan Ewald was well loved, and the glue that held many members of the 148th together.
"The 148th is a really close family," she said. "We work together 10 to 12 hours a day, we deploy together, we have fun together outside of work, and they pulled together to try to take care of one of our own family members who is in a time of need right now."
Anyone who wants to donate to the Ewalds can give through a fund set up in the girls' names at Hermantown Federal Bank.
