There's a new spot in downtown Duluth to exchange dirty and used needles for clean ones. But the Minnesota Department of Health tells Eyewitness News it's only temporary.

A needle exchange program is operating out of a building on the 100 block of First Avenue West next to the Hanabi restaurant.

The department says needle exchanges contribute significantly in slowing the spread of HIV, AIDS and Hepatitis C.

The exchange opened at the current location on September 23, according to the department, but will end up moving to a location they say will better benefits the clients and surrounding community.
