The Ely City Council is proposing a moratorium on both electronic cigarettes and synthetic drugs.
If passed, the ordinance would ban the sale and indoor use for the time it takes for the Planning and Zoning Commission to provide a report on the substances to the council.
In the proposed ordinance, the council says that it "desires no development, construction or creation of any business or activities involved with E-Cigarettes or Synthetic Drugs" until the Commission completes their study.
According to Ely Deputy Clerk Claire Huisman, the first reading of the moratorium ordinance was on Oct. 1st.
Huisman says changes will likely be made to the wording of the ordinance and a vote will come at their next meeting on Oct. 15th.
