The Duluth International Airport was awarded a grant totaling more that $1.5 million by the Department of Transportation and the Federal Aviation Administration.
The federal funding will be used to construct a new plane parking area, called an apron. That will provide service to three gates at the replacement passenger terminal building.
Funds will also be used for a Wildlife Hazard Assessment to identify wildlife species that may be impacted by the airport's operations.
Rep. Rick Nolan (D-MN), a member of the House Transportation and Infrastructure Subcommittee on Aviation, says that this grant announcement means jobs for the area.
