The U.S. Coast Guard says a guardsman assigned to the Duluth-based Cutter Alder was sentenced Monday after being found guilty of charges, including sexual assault, during a general court-martial in Norfolk, Virginia.
Petty Officer 3rd Class Matthew A. Rogers was sentenced to 10 years confinement in a military brig, a bad conduct discharge, forfeiture of all pay and allowances, and a reduction in pay, the Coast Guard said in a release. He was convicted earlier in the day of committing sexual assault against a civilian woman in Portsmouth, Virginia in August of 2012.
The Coast Guard said Rogers is permanently assigned to the Cutter Alder. He has been assigned there since March of 2012, but was attending training in Portsmouth at the time of the sexual assault.
