At a Duluth forum last week, 4th District School Board Candidates David Bolgrien and Art Johnston weighed in on bullying.
Both said they feel bullying is a major concern in schools, and both listed discipline as one of the keys to curbing it.
"There's a real problem," Bolgrien said. "We can solve that problem—we have to solve that problem—through consistent application of discipline, through consistent acknowledgement of the victim's side of the story."
Johnston, the incumbent candidate, agreed that discipline is important. He also said he wanted to acknowledge the work already being done to curb bullying.
"We have people that are monitoring hallways, making sure that their students are actually attending classes," Johnston said. "That's certainly a number one thing to get to stopping bullying, is making sure that people have discipline."
