A Duluth record label celebrated its first birthday Saturday.
Chaperone Records has been producing specialty short-run vinyl and signing local artists for the past year. They celebrated that one-year mark Saturday, along with another milestone—the unveiling of a new building by Chaperone Creative Director Bob Monahan.
The space, at 208 E. First Street in Duluth, has been named the Red Herring Lounge. Monahan said it could be used as a music venue by the time Homegrown Music Festival hits in May.
As far as the record label goes, Monahan said it feels good to hit one year, but they're not done yet.
"It's been an amazing year," he said. "It's been a lot of work, but it's been a steady build laying down that foundation that has brought us to this point. So I guess I foresee some things getting easier over the next year, but we also have a lot of work to do to keep this momentum up."
