A Coast Guardsman assigned to the Duluth-based Coast Guard Cutter Alder faces a court-martial for alleged sexual assault, the Coast Guard announced Friday.
Petty Officer 3rd Class Matthew Rogers is accused of committing a sexual assault against a civilian woman at a hotel in Portsmouth, Va., on Aug. 15, 2012. Rogers was attending training in Portsmouth at the time of the alleged incident. He is currently serving at Coast Guard Station Marblehead, Ohio, but remains assigned to the Alder.
Rogers is charged with sexual assault, making a false official statement, obstructing justice, and misuse of a military ID card. He is also accused of conspiring to tamper with a command-directed urinalysis.
Rogers has not been convicted. The court-martial will take place in Norfolk, Va. beginning Monday.
