A garage is totalled and a home damaged in what the Superior Fire Department is calling a suspicious fire.
Three engine companies and a command car responded to the residence in the area of N 5th St. and Fisher Ave. At 6:05 p.m. Wednesday evening.
Crews reported that the garage was fully engulfed and flames were showing on the back corner of the house.
The fact that both buildings were on fire gave Battalion Chief Vern Johnson reason for suspicion.
"When you have fires going at two structures at the same time and they're not that close together... there's just some obvious clues when you're in the fire service, you know," said Johnson at the scene of the fire.
"The nature of this fire seems to be suspicious, so we're investigating along with the police department."
Johnson reports the fire was quickly extinguished, and crews "searched the house for occupants and fire extension, finding neither in the interior."
No one was injured in the fire but, he estimates damage to the garage at $25,000 and at $5,000 to the house.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
