Duluth city councilors have passed a resolution authorizing a settlement in a civil suit filed by two preachers at the Bentleyville Tour of Lights.
The preachers, Steve Jankowski and Peter Scott, filed a lawsuit against the City of Duluth in November of 2011. They had said a police officer ordered them to stop preaching there the prior winter.
Duluth councilors approved a $177,500 settlement in their Monday meeting.
According to federal judge's ruling, the men are allowed to preach in a portion of the event agreed upon in a mediated settlement conference in April.
The ruling says they can preach on the sidewalks and the public right-of-ways surrounding Bayfront Festival Park as well as the walkways leading up to the park.
Bentleyville opens at the end of November.
