The Minnesota Senate lent a listening ear on the Iron Range Tuesday.
The state Senate's Higher Education Committee kicked off a "listening tour," with the first stop at Mesabi Range Community and Technical College. Committee Chair Terri Bonoff said the tour is a way to get input from students about improving higher education in the state.
"It's our intention to listen to the students, number one, to find out what's working, what's not working," Sen. Bonoff said. "We do want college to be affordable, accessible. We want to understand what programs are out there, to be able to take best practices and make sure that we spread them throughout the state."
Bonoff said it was hard to get students talking at first, but once they did, it seemed that everyone wanted to tell their story. The tour also went to Vermilion Community College in Ely later Tuesday afternoon.
