The Federal Railroad Administration is announcing that an environmental assessment into a proposal high speed passenger rail project connecting Minneapolis in Duluth finds that it would have no significant impact.
According to the FRA, the Minneapolis-Duluth/Superior Rail Alliance, in cooperation with Mn/DOT proposes constructing the Northern Lights Express - a 155-mile long, high-speed inter city passenger rail service.
The service would include eight round trips per day, operating at up to 110 miles per hour. A portion of the service would travel through Douglas County in Wisconsin, the FRA said.
In December, Congressman Rick Nolan said he was setting the project as a priority. He has said that it will open up Duluth and greater Minnesota to economic opportunity.
