Three Minnesota Democratic Lawmakers announced a big chunk of change for repairs to the Duluth-Superior Harbor on Tuesday.
Congressman Rick Nolan, along with Sen. Amy Klobuchar made the announcement at Cirrus Aircraft in Duluth.
The money, coming from the US Department of Transportation will be used to expand the general cargo dock, connecting it to existing road and rail infrastructure.
The lawmakers also used the occasion to announce new legislation that is moving forward in Washington.
It would require user fees from Lake Superior vessels, to be used for things such as dredging the harbor.
"It's no secret that because of dredging requirements that have gone unmet," said Nolan, "the business and industry in the lakers have been operating at about 80 percent of their capacity, costing us billions of dollars in very important business revenue and jobs."
Nolan says that recently both Democrats and Republicans had been "raiding" that fund for other purposes.
