Motel Fire in Cook Causes $500,000 Of Damage

A motel in Cook was severely damaged after an early morning fire Sunday.

It happened at the Vermilion Motel on Highway 53 at about 3 a.m. A person inside the motel smelled smoke and alerted other tenants. Everyone inside was able to escape safely and without injuries.

Firefighters said the blaze caused more than $500,000 of damage. The cause of the fire is still under investigation.

The American Red Cross is helping displaced people, who were all from out of the area.
