St. Louis County leaders say that they have suspended preparations for a possible strike by about 1,000 county workers.
Two AFSCME bargaining units could go on strike as soon as Friday, but yesterday the county agreed to the union's key concern: the amount of sick leave employees are allowed to accumulate.
"We have instructed department heads to suspend strike preparations," said County
Administrator Kevin Gray in a press release. "While we recognize that employees could legally strike as early as this Friday, we expect they would not do so now that a new offer reflecting the union's bargaining position has been put forward and a vote scheduled."
The county says the union plans to present the offer to employees in two weeks.
The contract they will be voting on covers the years 2012-2014.
