A coalition in Duluth of faith, labor, and nonprofit organizations joined a kickoff at the State Fair to 'Raise the Wage.'
The campaign urges state lawmakers to raise the minimum wage to $9.50 per hour by 2015.
Stacy Spexet is the president of the United Steelworkers Local 9460. They represent 2,400 healthcare workers in the Northland.
"We are with you at the beginning of life to the end of the life and in between, with all the ups and downs, yet there are workers at minimum wage or just above," said Spexet. "Such low wages lead to high turnover at many facilities."
The Minnesota House passed legislation in the 2013 session with a $9.50 minimum wage by 2015. The Senate passed a bill gradually increasing the wage to $7.75 over two years.
