Two very different local congregations came together in Duluth on Saturday to learn more about one another.
The Unitarian Universalist Congregation of Duluth (UUCD) teamed up with the Islamic Center of the Twin Ports (ICTP) to put on a Middle Eastern dinner. Julie McDonnell, the UUCD fundraising coordinator, said she thinks of it as a conversation with neighbors.
"This is a wonderful opportunity for people from congregations to meet each other and for all of us in the community to get to know our Muslim brothers and sisters on a little deeper level," she said.
Ibrahim Equdah, secretary for ICTP, said the dinner brings people together.
"We can learn more about each other and different cultures, (and) different foods," he said.
And there was plenty of it: falafel, hummus, lamb and baklava, just to name a few dishes. Proceeds from the evening went to benefit both congregations.
