The Duluth Fire Dept. is hoping to combine two fire halls in the near future, and on Wednesday night the public was weighing in on the move.
The combined fire hall would serve the UMD and Woodland communities, and the halls in those neighborhoods would be shut down.
The new one would be built at the intersection of Woodland Ave. and Arrowhead Rd.
Originally, the plan was to place it at the intersection of Snively Rd. And Woodland, but public outcry made them go back to the drawing board.
"Change is difficult for anybody," said Duluth Fire Chief John Strongitharm. "There'll be some people that aren't exactly pleased with the change because they're moving to new places but I think overall it's supported."
Strongitharm said one thing is for sure: the firefighters support it. The combined fire hall would make four people available per fire truck. That means the first rig on the scene could start battling a fire without waiting for another to show up.
