Duluth Church Helps Motorists Top off Their Tanks

A Duluth Church tried to spread some kindness in the community by helping motorists fill their tanks on Saturday.

Members of Eastridge Community Church passed out $5 gas cards to everyone pumping gas on Saturday morning. Church leaders said the event is part of their "I Love Duluth" project.

Pastor Tom Asbury hoped the random act of kindness would spread into the community.

"We, as a church, just want to show love to the community so if it's just a simple thing like five bucks maybe it makes somebody a little happier and then later on in the day they give away some money. It's kind of a pay it forward thing. Really, it's just a way for our congregation to bless the community," Asbury said.

He said the gas cards went to the first 400 people that stopped to fill their tanks at the Holiday Gas Station along Arrowhead Road in Duluth.

Asbury said some were skeptical of the gift, but it came with absolutely no strings attached. He said a similar random act of kindness will return next summer as well.
