Contributions to a campaign designed to expand and modernize soup kitchen and complete other work at the Damiano Center in Duluth have surpassed $1 million, according to Executive Director David Benson.
According to a release, the Fond du Lac Band of Lake Superior Chippewa has joined Essentia Health, Maurices, the Minnesota Power Foundation, the Community Block Grant Program and two anonymous donors in making major commitments of support to the campaign.
Benson said the Fond du Lac Band pledged $100,000 in support over four years. He said their gift brings the total raised so far to $1,156,128. Damiano is still seeking around $800,000 to complete all the building work.
The Damiano Center runs five programs: the Soup Kitchen, the Clothing Exchang, Clothes that Work, Damiano Kids Café and Damiano Community Services.
