What would you say if the next set of Duluth city councilors was made up of high school students?

Councilor Emily Larson is working on a proposal to create something called the Youth City Council. Like the actual city council, it would have nine members and would weigh in on issues important in Duluth.

Larson tells Eyewitness News that the idea comes from a group of young people working through Youth in Government at the YMCA and a few other organizations.

"They have been great about reaching out, sharing their ideas, inviting councilors and Mayor Ness to meetings to share what their vision is. They have crafted this entirely and it is really exciting."

The Youth City Council would be made up of appointed or elected high school students from different parts of the city.

Larson expects to have an ordinance in front of the Duluth City Council within the next couple of weeks.
