The ship that has called Leif Erikson Park home since the 1920s is being moved across the city to a location where it will undergo some work.
According to Neill Atkins, with the Leif Erikson Restoration Project, the Viking Ship will be moved to a city warehouse in West Duluth on Thursday. He says the ship has been in its current location for at least a decade, just across the Lakewalk from the Rose Garden.
Atkins said it was moved there by request of the mayor after it was restored. Eventually, Atkins says the ship will be moved to the corner of 10th Avenue East and London Road.
Cranes will be staging ahead of the move Thursday morning at 6 by Valentini's.
Atkins said police will be involved, and part of the Lakewalk will be temporarily closed.
