A two-time Beargrease champion was in Alaska this weekend taking the first step in fulfilling a dream.
Chisholm's Nathan Schroeder was one of about 30 mushers in Wasilla, Alaska who officially entered the 2014 Iditarod. There will be 52 mushers in the race this winter, and Schroeder is one of 11 rookies.
Schroeder won the John Beargrease Sled Dog Marathon twice. He said he's looking forward to what the new competition has to offer.
"I'm excited to see what these guys have up here," Schroeder said. "This is my second trip up to Alaska. I was up here four years ago and I vowed to never return without my dog team."
The Iditarod is a more than 1,049 mile race. It gets underway in March.
