Duluth's "Duluthiest" website is turning 10 years old, and Saturday was a perfect day to celebrate.
Perfect Duluth Day (PDD) is an online community blog that started as an experiment among a group of friends 10 years ago. Today, the site has had more than 1,000 members, and about 20,000 people visit it every month.
In true community fashion, their birthday party served as a pre-party for the Trampled by Turtles and Atmosphere concert at Bayfront Saturday night.
"As soon as we're done here with enjoying convivial beverages and celebrating our 10 years, we'll hoof it over to Bayfront for the big show there," said Paul Lundgren, president and "grand poobah" of Perfect Duluth Day.
Barrett Chase, co-founder and blogging director, said it is exciting to see how far the blog has come.
"Ten years is a long time in terms of the Internet," he said, "and we've come a very, very, very long way since the beginning, pre-Facebook, pre-YouTube, into the world we are in now where everybody's online."
PDD is now a limited liability corporation with five partners and three part-time staff members. And on Saturday, Duluth Mayor Don Ness proclaimed it "Perfect Duluth Day Day"—appropriately enough, from his own PDD account.
