Man Injured in Itasca Co. Plane Crash

An Itasca County man was injured when his plane crashed into a lake on Tuesday afternoon.
The sheriff's office said a float plane crashed into Shoal Lake, which is about five miles north of Grand Rapids, at about 5:10 p.m. Authorities rescued Gerard Dale Pearson, 71, from the partially-submerged plane.
Pearson was taken to the Grand Itasca Medical Center and later airlifted to Duluth. His condition was not immediately available.
The Itasca County Sheriff Department, Itasca County Search and Rescue, Cohasset Fire, and Minnesota DNR responded to the scene. The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
