A Minnesota State Patrol update on the accident is now calling it fatal, and lists the 24-year-old victim as deceased.
The State Patrol said 24-year-old Trevor Langlois, of Wyoming, was hit around 10:50 p.m. Monday. According to Langlois' family, Trevor had truck problems and had pulled to the side of the road near the southbound entrance ramp when he was hit.
According to his family, Trevor is an Army veteran and working on expanding a business.
"He had just graduated from a 2-year college in business and he wanted to start his own business," said Trevor's father, Brian Langlois.
Brian said Trevor had just bought the truck from a private seller near Hinckley to help expand his tree removal business. He added it was that truck that was having trouble when Trevor pulled to the side of I-35, put on his flashers, and got out.
Authorities said the vehicle that hit Trevor stopped, then fled the scene southbound on the interstate following the collision.
Trevor was airlifted to Essentia Health-St. Mary's Hospital in Duluth.
Trevor's wife, Katie, said her husband is always willing to give the shirt off his back, especially for veterans in need.
"He's a loving husband and a loving father," said Katie.
The Minnesota State Patrol said the suspect vehicle is believed to be a 2010 or newer Ford F-150 XLT four-door pick-up, but the color is still unknown. The State Patrol said it may have damage to the front right area and right side mirror.
