County officials announced Douglas County will receive over $1.7 million in federal aid to assist several property owners along the St. Louis River whose properties sustained severe erosion-related damage due to the June 2012 storm.
The funding comes from USDA'S Natural Resource Conservation Service (NRCS) Emergency Watershed Protection Program.
Douglas County Administrator Andy Lisak said in a release the funding will be used to provide technical and financial assistance to six homeowners and one business within Douglas County. Five of the homeowners are in the City of Superior, and one is in the Town of Superior. The business, Mont du Lac Recreation Area is also located in the Town of Superior.
The properties were surveyed last summer by Douglas County staff and eligibility was determined by USDA staff.
Lisak said Douglas County will use the funding to hire consultants and construction crews to stabilize and repair eroding slopes on the properties.
