Three men are being being recognized for their service and dedication to one of Duluth's biggest events.

Tom Ehle, Brad Miller and John Schlangen won Rudy Perpich Public Service Awards for their longtime contributions to Grandma's Marathon events. They were honored at a breakfast at the Radisson Hotel Thursday morning.

Ehle is a retired Duluth police officer, Miller works for Mn/DOT and Schlangen is an employee with the Lake County Highway Department.

Ehle tells Eyewitness News he did security at the race finish line and tents for decades. After retiring he joined the marathon board.

"It's an honor to be recognized among the two other recipients. It's a great honor to be recognized like that," Ehle said.

The award is named after late-Minnesota Governor Rudy Perpich who was a large supporter of the marathon since it began nearly four decades ago.
