Following more than a year of investigation, Superior police say a man accused in a fatal January 2012 shooting has been charged with First Degree Intentional Homicide.
Toriano Dawen Cooper was shot and killed outside of a residence on the 1900 block of North 12th Street just after 10 a.m. on January 15, according to police.
Police said Thursday that developments in the investigation led them to file a warrant for the arrest of 21-year-old Tiawain Albert Johnson, originally from Chicago. They said Johnson was staying in Superior at the time of the homicide, but returned to Chicago area after the shooting where is currently being held in jail on an unrelated charge.
Police said the investigation uncovered that a robbery incident, allegedly involving Cooper and Johnson, happened a few weeks prior to the shooting. They said the shooting is believed to be an act of retaliation for that robbery.
