Fashion is, of course, very subjective. A fashion show this weekend in Duluth wants to change wants to push the limits of fashion, beauty and gender roles.
Derek Amundson with the local organization Treat Us Equal stopped by Good Morning Northland Friday to talk about the Gender Blender Fashion Show. It takes place Saturday at the Zeitgeist Arts Center starting at 7 p.m.
The idea of Treat Us Equal is trying to get everyone in the community involved, whether you are gay or straight, Amundsen said. The money will go to the organization, which is a place where people can discover themselves and see that no matter your orientation, it is not that different, Amundson said.
So, Amundson tried to think of a theme that is a mix of themes, he said. The show is meant to both reaffirm traditional beauty and simultaneously shatter and redefine it, he said.
Tickets are $15 at the door Saturday night. Amundson said he hopes to use the funds to set up a scholarship fund.
