The Northland got hit with another winter storm Sunday night, but earlier in the day people had a chance to enjoy some sunshine.
Down in Canal Park, people were enjoying the calmer weather and checking out the ice on Lake Superior in the afternoon. One couple from Maple Grove was celebrating their wedding anniversary. They first celebrated their marriage in Duluth 40 years ago.
"It's our 40th anniversary," Del Lanz said. "We came up to reminisce."
"We're just out enjoying the town," Lillian Lanz said. "We thought we'd come down to the lake and look and see the ice."
While they were enjoying the lack of snow early in the day, they were ready for the winter wallop.
"We are going to go back to our room and watch it out our patio," Lillian said.
The storm did eventually make its way to the Northland in the late afternoon. High winds and blowing snow drove many people out of Canal Park, except for a brave few.
"We love the weather and we love storms," Suzanne Herstad of Duluth said. "So, we like coming down here when the weather starts getting nasty."
Herstad and her family went down to Lake Superior when the winds picked up to see waves, but didn't have much luck.
"It's all pretty much jam packed with ice," Herstad said. "So, that's about it for the excitement. We're enjoying the birds."
Herstad wasn't the only one disappointed Sunday.
"We came down to check out the waves, but there are no waves out here," Nate Gervenak of Duluth said. "It's nasty out here, really windy, snowy. You can't see the lake at all, which is somewhat disappointing."
Sunday's storm is the second in the last several days, and another snowstorm is expected later in the week.
