Sherri Irving and Shannon Gardner came up with the idea to bring a bodybuilding fitness show to Duluth about three years ago.
And in May, it will become a reality.
"We have so many competitors from our region. We thought, why not?" Gardner said.
The Iron Viking of the North Bodybuilding, Physique, Figure, Fitness, and Bikini Championships will be held at the DECC on Saturday, May 11th.
The promoters, Irving and Gardner, expect about 100 competitors to take the stage.
They themselves also have competed in competitions.
But the average Joe should not be intimidated.
"Many people start out in this sport just trying to lose some weight. Then they see results, and take it to the next level," said Irving.
Gardner added, "It's different than running a marathon. It also involves a very restrictive diet, which can be a challenge when others around you are eating whatever they want. We focus on being lean muscle."
At the competition, there will also be a contest winner announcement, for a weight loss competition.
