Duluth Coffee Company is a cafe and wholesale retailer on Superior Street in downtown Duluth. Owner, Eric Faust, described his brand as eco-friendly. It might be March, but they are now biking their roasted beans.
Faust said he's been wanting to trade in his old F-150 for a bicycle to deliver his orders to local businesses for some time. He said coffee company he admires has been delivering via bike for years.
"There's a symbiotic relationship between cycling and coffee that you see in places like Portland, San Francisco, and Seattle," said Faust.
Continental Ski & Bike helped Duluth Coffee Co. out. They built the trailer, which holds up to 75 lbs, and they supplied the bike. Community Outreach Coordinator Kraig Decker said Duluth has been slow on jumping on the trend, but he hopes it will catch on.
"You're not burning any fossil fuels by delivering something, you get out and get some exercise, and kind of show people there are alternative ways to travel," said Decker.
They might be the first, but Faust said he hopes when other businesses see them biking their beans, they'll want to go green, too.
