Marie Majerle of Cloquet has been charged with attempted murder in the first degree and with removing or altering a serial number on a firearm.
Majerle's attorney, Fred Friedman, chief public defender of the Sixth Judicial District, entered a provisional not guilty plea Thursday.
During the hearing, Friedman challenged the probable cause of Majerle's charges. He also questioned the quality of the recordings of Majerle's three statements with police.
The defense and prosecution will submit their written arguments next month, another court date has not yet been set.
Unable to make bail, Majerle is still in custody at the Carlton County Jail.
