Spring is just around the corner in the Northland and the Fitger's Complex is celebrating with the buzz on an annual favorite--Bockfest.

On Thursday, Fitger's kicked off the 18th annual Bockfest festivities. They started with the traditional Blessing of the Bock, the Lake Superior Brewing Company's Split Rock Bock beer.

Lake Superior Head Brewer and part-owner Dale Kleinschmidt brewed this year's bock. He said he's been to every Bockfest and gave some insight on the event.

"It's always a very nice, well-behaved crowd and the people are here just to enjoy the outdoors and have some good conversation and enjoy a nice beer," Kleinschmidt said.

Bock enthusiasts can sit around an outdoor fire pit on hay bales, and can, of course, get the beer poked. That unique ritual involved a fire-reddened poker stick being dipped into the bock beer, caramelizing the beverage.
