St. Thomas Academy Wins Third Straight State Title

St. Paul, Minn. - Hermantown had a two-goal lead going into the third period, but St. Thomas Academy came back with three goals in the final period to win their third straight State A Boys Hockey Championship, 5-4.

The game-winning goal came with just six seconds left as Tommy Novak scored on the powerplay, connecting on a slap shot from the top of the left face-off circle. Matt Perry had a hat trick for St. Thomas. Scoring for Hermantown were Chris Benson, Scott Wasbotten, Ryan Kero and Lane LeGarde. The Hawks scored three goals in the second period. Benson's goal in the first period tied the game at 1. Henry Hart also had a goal for St. Thomas Academy.

It is the third straight season that the Cadets have defeated the Hawks for the State A Championship. St. Thomas Academy moves up to Class AA next season.
