Wis. Bill Would Restrict Absentee Voting Time

MADISON, Wis. (AP) - A Republican-backed bill in the Wisconsin state Assembly would limit the hours and days that voters can cast in-person absentee ballots.
The measure by Republican Rep. Duey Stroebel, of Saukville, would prohibit clerks from opening early, late or on weekends to accommodate voters wishing to cast their ballots before Election Day.
Democratic opponents say absentee voting should be expanded as it's proven to be increasingly popular.
Stroebel aide John Soper tells the Wisconsin State Journal (http://tinyurl.com/au5pyez) in a story Tuesday that the bill seeks to give residents of smaller communities the same access to absentee voting as those in larger communities that can afford to hold extended balloting.
The bill introduced last week has yet to be scheduled for a hearing.
