Hard work is finally paying off for one volunteer group in Esko.
The Esko Turf Club has been working to raise money for an artificial turf field for the school district, and last week they received exciting news.
After raising about $350,000, the school board approved the project. The school's old field was destroyed during June's flood. Russ Davidson, who headed up the club, said about 500 individuals and businesses came together to help out.
"The community has stepped up big time," Davidson said. "That's the biggest thing that shocked the 30 turf club members the most."
It's not all over yet though, the club still needs to raise another $100,000 to meet their goal.
The field is set to open by fall of this year. Davidson said the artificial turf will last about 15 years and save money on maintenance costs.
