UW-Superior says longtime Communicating Arts Professor John Munsell died Tuesday after a long illness. He was 70.
Munsell taught at the university from 1967 to 2001, inspiring students in theater, television, and speech courses. Among other things, he directed more than sixty stage productions, acted in more than 200 stage and television performances, ran a touring summer theater program, and hosted programs for Wisconsin Public Radio.
Cathy Fank, the theater faculty member hired to replace Munsell, said it was "daunting" to follow Munsell's act. "He is such a dynamic, inspirational and well-respected acting and directing teacher, so I was stepping into big shoes," she said, pointing out that a number of Munsell's former students are now on the theater faculty at area colleges and active in the local theater scene.
UWS will host a memorial service for Munsell next Thursday.
