Superior Fire Department crews are looking into a possible arson fire atop a trestle of the ore docks in Superior's East End neighborhood.
A Burlington Northern Santa Fe employee called in the blaze on Friday night after seeing smoke and flames. All companies from the Superior Fire Department arrived to the ore dock at 3701 37th Avenue E. Around 5:30 p.m.
Battalion Chief Vern Johnson said the fire was burning in a large two story brick structure, about 100 feet above the ground. Burlington Northern Public Affairs Director Amy McBeth told Eyewitness News the building has been unused for many years.
Johnson said flames died down significantly after the first few minutes, but the safest approach to extinguishing it was actually to do nothing at all. Johnson said with no one inside, they let the embers burn out inside the brick building.
More information about the person or persons who could have possibly started the fire is unknown.
